The meeting was attended by the members of the European Parliament from the Parliament Interest Group on Allergy and Asthma: MEP Sirpa Pietikainen, MEP Nessa Childers, WHO representative at the European Parliament dr. Roberto Bertollini, EAACI representatives, national associations, and most pharmaceutical companies actively operating within the area of allergology. All speakers in their speeches emphasized the significance of allergies as chronic diseases, particularly in relation to the EU air contamination policy. The questions were raised during the discussion so as how individual groups (parliament members, companies, scientific associations) are to cooperate and what should be done to promote the policy taking into consideration the issues of allergy resulting from other chronic diseases and the issues of financing of scientific research and support organization of patients.
At the same time an exhibition “Test your allergy” was held in the Parliament and EP employees could have some patch tests carried out, could talk to an allergologist; there was an exhibition presenting photos of patients with various allergic diseases and posters advertising the activities of EAACI i EFA. This event enjoyed a lot of interest.
